Caleb Wallace, 30, with 3 children and a fourth on the way, has died of Covid. He himself, who in Texas was one of the leaders of the “no-mask” movement, opposed to the use of the mask. Wallace died after spending three weeks in intensive care. His wife Jessica, who is pregnant, told the newspaper San Angelo Standard-Times that when he first felt ill he took a mix of vitamin C, zinc, aspirin and ivermectin. The latter is a pesticide (used in both humans and animals) touted as a treatment for Covid, but which has already proven totally ineffective.

“Tyranny Covid-19”

“Caleb died peacefully. It will live forever in our hearts and minds, ”Ms. Wallace wrote in a post on GoFundMe, where she raised funds to cover medical bills. Mr. Wallace, who worked in a company that sells welding equipment in San Angelo, viewed the anti-Covid measures as an invasion of personal freedom by the government. He checked in at Shannon Medical Center on July 30th. In early July, he organized a “Freedom Rally” for people “tired of the government having control of our lives.” He also founded the “San Angelo freedom defenders”, a group that wants to put an end to what he called “the tyranny of Covid-19”.

“We are not no-vax”

Ms. Wallace wears a mask, but said her husband respected her decisions. “We joked that he was on one side and I was on the other and that’s what made us the perfect couple, we balanced each other,” he told the San Angelo Standard-Times. She added that the three children have received the vaccines expected for their age and that she will vaccinate herself against the coronavirus after the baby is born in late September. “We are not no-vax,” he stressed.

Hospitalizations on the rise

Infections and Covid hospitalizations have been on the rise in Texas for a few weeks. In Tom Green County, which includes the city of San Angelo, cases have increased by 50 percent in the past two weeks and hospitalizations by 33 percent, according to the database of the New York Times. At Shannon Medical Center the intensive care unit is 70 percent occupied. The US average for ICU bed occupancy is 68 percent, while in Texas it is 94 percent.
