New Delhi: The stage is set for Shashi Tharoor MP to contest for the post of Congress president. It is reported that Congress President Sonia Gandhi has given permission to Tharoor to contest.

In a meeting held in Delhi on Monday, Sonia Tharoor’s presidential candidature was given the green light. It is known that Sonia told Tharoor that the Congress will not have an official candidate for the post of President and that the high command is of the opinion that there should be an open contest.

It is reported that Sonia was angry that the high command had no role in some state committees passing the resolution that Rahul should become the president again.

Some close sources said there is no doubt that Tharoor will enter the race if Sonia does not object. Meanwhile, Tharoor told Mathrubhumi.com that it is true that he met Sonia but is not revealing anything more now.

Tharoor said that he will clarify his position in this matter within three days and the meeting with Sonia was completely cordial.

The time to submit nomination papers for the post of Congress president is from September 24 to 30.
