The general director of Road and Rail Transport of the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Rosa Obrer, has assured that the 44 tons in Spain will be approved before the end of this year 2024.
This is what he announced, during his speech at the 23rd edition of the Transport Forum organized by the Aecoc shippers association, that the Government will begin the processing of the modification of the regulations that regulate weights and dimensions of goods transport vehicles. “We are not going to have 44 tons tomorrow. The process can last between 6 and 9 months,” he estimated. Regarding this, Aecoc asked for the deadlines to be speeded up, since “it is a regulation on which we all agree and no amendments will be necessary.”
Along these lines, the CEO of Narval, Marta Sánchez, has pointed out that “the 44 tons and the mega trucks are necessary, since the shippers and transporters are aligned in this sense, what is misaligned is the regulations that they impose on us.”
On the other hand, Roser Obrer has also highlighted that the railway will have an important role in this legislature and has confirmed that the objective remains for 10% of goods to move on rails in our country in 2030.
