THE ANSWER OF RUBIALES | VAR to the RFEF photo-excuse: Rubiales, raised or perched?

The Real spanish soccer federation launched on Friday night a controversial statement against the world champions who have signed in support of their partner Jenni Hermoso (threatening them with consequences if they do not attend the call of the selection) and arguing that It was the player who lifted up the president of the Federation, as if that implied that the subsequent kiss for which Hermoso explained that she felt attacked was justified. The communication department of the RFEF attached four photos to justify their claims and these have been questioned on the networks. Numerous people have highlighted a ‘ghost foot’ on the ground that supposedly belonged to Rubiales while in the RFEF photo he appears with two other feet in the air or have argued that while in the four photos the president varies his position, the background remains unchanged. The TVE video has also been recovered in which only Rubiales appears lifting Jennifer Hermoso and not the other way around. What is true in all this?

The video: either raised, or perched

Indeed, The TVE video does not show the image of Rubiales being supposedly lifted by Jennifer Beautiful. But that’s because, in the broadcast, another player’s shot was aired at that moment while she was kissing the trophy. In another video with a more general shot, but with visibility difficulties, the image in question can be glimpsed. However, any referee would have a hard time whistling the play with that VAR. It is perfectly possible that Hermoso lifted Rubiales first. But according to the image it is also possible that the president of the RFEF jumped on the player and she simply leaned back to maintain her balance. On the other hand, it is clear that Rubiales was lifting one player after another. And that one thing or another happened does not serve as an explanation for the subsequent kiss or for the subsequent actions of the leader, which the player has criticized as a series of continuous pressures to manifest himself in favor of her.

The ghost foot: it is not from Rubiales

In the images in which Rubiales appears in the arms of Hermoso (or vice versa) and with both feet in the air, another foot with a male shoe can be seen next to those of the Infanta Sofía. The networks suspect that it is Rubiales’ right foot, which was left there after a cut while the rest of the photo was altered with Photoshop. It seems evident that this suspicion is not true: although he is not seen in the suspicious image, the foot seems to correspond to an employee of the FIFA located behind the infantwhich is visible in other frames, and which holds the medals for the champions.

The background: not the same

Another argument to justify that the images have been digitally altered is that the rest of the photo would be the same in different images while only Rubiales’ position varies. Analyzed with a magnifying glass, it does not appear so. There are two pairs of images (two with the national team goalkeeper Misa Rodríguez approaching Infantino and two with both of them already greeting each other) and in all four there are slight differences in the position of the rest of the characters (mouths open or closed, hands that can be seen in one image and not another…)
