The Attorney General’s Office announced this Monday morning that it opened a preliminary investigation against the mayor of Bogotá, Claudia López, and Senator Angélica Lozano, of the Alianza Verde party, who is his wife.

The control entity detailed that this investigation was opened motivated by the alleged irregularities that had been recorded around the Bogotá Metro in relation to alleged bribes that had been paid by the contractor in charge of building this mega mobility project in the country’s capital.

In a statement, the Attorney General’s Office specified that it opened this preliminary investigation in order to establish whether López and Lozano incurred any irregularity related to the alleged payment of bribes that would have been made precisely by the contractor carrying out the construction of the Bogotá Metro.

“The Disciplinary Instruction Chamber held that, according to what was reported by the media, the servers were possibly mentioned in conversations between officials of the Ministry of Transportation and a Chinese citizen, in which it was revealed that $6,000 million would be allocated to finance campaigns,” detailed the Public Ministry.

Along these lines, the control body explained that it will be in charge of investigating the possible commission of some irregular conduct that has resulted in an action of possible disciplinary impact by the senator and the mayor of Bogotá.

“The disciplinary action initiated by the entity seeks to determine the occurrence of the conduct, establish whether it constitutes a disciplinary offense and define whether or not it acted under a cause of exclusion of responsibility,” stated the Attorney General’s Office.

Prosecutor’s Office also investigates alleged corruption in the Bogotá Metro

Recently, the Attorney General’s Office confirmed that it has open investigations to determine if there was “a crime committed by officials of the Mayor’s Office of Bogotá” and that for this purpose it has already made two certified copies to different judicial instances.

The investigating entity made this clarification after a publication in Semana magazine in which it claimed to have accessed a judicial file that supposedly affected Mayor Claudia López and Senator Angélica Lozano, and the party to which both belong: the Green Alliance.

According to these documents, officials from the Bogotá Mayor’s Office, among whom Mayor López would allegedly be included, would have received a series of bribes in exchange for awarding contracts to a Chinese consortium.

This money, which supposedly would have been consigned by citizens of Asian origin to the accounts of the president and the party, would be directed, according to the report from the aforementioned media, to strengthen Lozano’s electoral campaign for her re-election as senator in 2022.

When this report was revealed, through a statement, the company Metro de Bogotá, together with the Mayor’s Office of Claudia López, rejected the complaint.

López assured that Semana’s publication “only intends to defame and sow a blanket of doubt about me, my Mayor’s Office, my party, the Green, and the Bogotá Metro,” while the Metro company also explained that to this day , the action or intervention of the current mayor’s government, in relation to the concession contract awarded in 2019, has been purely to monitor and verify compliance with it.
