US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken’s visit to Beijing, which was canceled at short notice, is now to be made up for. He is expected to attend political talks in the Chinese capital on Sunday and Monday.

Washington, Peking Relations between China and the United States are at their worst since diplomatic relations were established in 1979. After the scandal surrounding the launch of a suspected Chinese spy balloon over US territory, communication between the two world powers was practically broken off.

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken’s visit to Beijing, which was canceled at short notice, is now to be made up for. He is expected to attend political talks in the Chinese capital on Sunday and Monday. US President Joe Biden is also hoping to meet Chinese head of state Xi Jinping soon, Biden said on Saturday. He hopes that this will be possible in a few months.

It would be the first visit by a US Secretary of State to China since 2018. In view of the numerous conflict issues, US officials tried to dampen expectations of the trip. A “breakthrough” is not expected, it said.
