The bridge under the road

by time news

At the time when Tokyo was still called Edo, it was the crossroads from which all the major roads going from the capital to the various provinces of the country started. Rebuilt several times, the Nihonbashi Bridge that spans the river of the same name still serves as a reference point for measuring all distances from Tokyo.

The current granite bridge was built in 1911 and has a certain charm, with its clusters of lanterns supported by bronze dragons. But unfortunately it remains difficult to appreciate, one of the many air expressways that zigzag through the city passing just a few meters above the emblematic place before continuing its route along the river.

Let’s just hope motorists appreciate the time savings.
