Jean-Michel Aulas appeared before the press this Wednesday and provided certain elements concerning this “freelance proposal to train the Ivory Coast” to Hervé Renard, which ultimately did not come to fruition.
The drama was surprising in the middle of the African Cup of Nations and ultimately, the two federations, French and Ivorian, did not agree. Which did not prevent Côte d’Ivoire from bouncing back and then winning this African Cup of Nations at home.
For Jean-Michel Aulas, this freelancing by Hervé Renard in Ivory Coast would not have been a bad thing. “It seemed rather positive to me, it absolutely did not bother the French team. I personally contacted a certain number of players from the French team, in particular the captain (Wendy Renard) to find out if there could be an embarrassing element. It wasn’t. Personally, I didn’t mind making Hervé Renard available to devote 10 days to “saving” Côte d’Ivoire.”
