Beware of the magnifying glass effect. Paris wants to drive SUVs out of its city center. Greater Paris, old polluting vehicles in its low-emission zone (ZFE). Outside the perimeter of the A 86, around forty other large towns are on the same line. But for an immense majority of our compatriots, deprived of public transport, ultra-dependence on the car nonetheless remains a daily reality. This, among other lessons, is what an Ifop study for the Roole company recalls, which we are revealing exclusively.
Between the prohibitive cost of new vehicles, the rise in prices on the second-hand market or even the inflation of the price of fuel, maintenance and repairs, but also tolls, the distress of motorists – in particular those who own an old car because they cannot change it — is real and profound. 16% of French people spend at least 300 euros per month on costs related to the use of their car, 49% between 100 euros and 299 euros.
