Baghdad – IA
Today, Sunday, Minister of Electricity Ziad Ali Fadel revealed that gas supplies from Iran had declined to 15 million cubic meters per day, indicating that this had caused a loss of 7,000 megawatts of production.
Fadel told the (INA): “The biggest challenge facing the Ministry of Electricity is the fuel that operates the production units,” noting that “the Ministry depends on fuel from 3 sources, which are imported and local gas and other types of local fuel.”
He added, “The agreement with the Iranian side regarding the supply of gas includes preparing 50 million cubic meters per day, and the supply for the current month was supposed to be approximately 40 million, but the quantity is currently only 15 million.”
He continued, “This quantity is divided by 10 million cubic meters for the central regions and 5 million for the south, and the difference between what is supposed and what we currently receive has led to a loss of 7 thousand megawatts of energy.”
He pointed out that “the decline in supplies reduced the volume of energy production at the Bismaya station from 4,500 megawatts to only 2,000, while the Al-Sadr gas station, which was generating 500 megawatts, stopped due to the lack of imports. Likewise, the Mansouriya station, which provides Baghdad and Diyala with 750 megawatts, stopped, and their production today is zero,” he explained. “The three stations depend on imported gas.”
