PRESS RELEASE

THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY AGAINST

AT THE REOPENING OF THE ORTONA HOSPITAL

ORTONA, 5 March – I regional summits and citizens of the Democratic Party, during an electoral meeting held in Ortona, in the Eden Hall, they reiterated theirs opposition to the construction of the base hospital in the S. Liberata district, as instead envisaged by the new hospital network approved by the Regional Council on 12 December. Big absentees the candidate at the meeting president of the centre-left Luciano D’Amico and especiallythe former health councilor PD Silvio Paolucci, creator, together with the former regional councilor of the same party, Camillo d’Alessandro (now regional secretary of Italia Viva) of unfortunate downsizing of the Ortona hospital.

“It’s amazing how the Democratic Party not manage to find the courage to admit their mistakes for the serious inconvenience caused passed to the citizens of the orthonese compressory with the impoverishment of the Ortona hospital and the drastic reduction of community health services”, underline Angelo Di Nardo, group leader of the center-right in the city council, and Franco Vanni, city councilor and candidate for the region on the list of Brothers of Italy.

“In the last years of full operation – continue Di Nardo and Vanni – the Ortona hospital has ensured the provision of approximately 700,000 services every year, of which 500,000 by the analysis laboratory alone. With the gradual closure of some departments in 2015-2016, services were practically eliminated. Suffice it to say that today, especially thanks to breast care and other excellent structures, within the former “G. Bernabeo”, transformed by the centre-left into a Chieti factory, on average just 3,000 services are provided each year, also reduced due to the pandemic. As you can see, unfortunately, the numbers never lie.”

“We continue to work – conclude Di Nardo and Vanni – to ensure the as soon as possible total reopening of the “G. Bernabeo”, back to being basic hospital thanks to the new hospital network approved by the Abruzzo Region led by President Marco Marsilio.”
