The DGT clarifies the cases in which double parking is allowed and you cannot be fined

by time news

Double parking is a recurring solution when we are late somewhere, we are running an errand in a hurry or we are looking for parking in a crowded area.

However, it is not a legal practice and is one of the most common reasons for fines, especially in large cities.

Leaving the car in a double row will cost us a 200-euro penalty, although without loss of points on the license, although there is an exception according to the DGT for which we can use this emergency parking resource without exposing ourselves to a fine.

The two minute rule

The regulations establish that the vehicle must be parked in such a way that “it does not obstruct movement or constitute a risk for other road users”, although not in all cases in which this requirement is met we will get rid of the fine. .

To do this, we will have to make sure that what we are really carrying out is a stop and not a parking lot.

The difference between the two is simple: the stop lasts less than two minutes and is done with the driver inside the vehicle.

Parking means extending that duration and, furthermore, that the driver does not remain inside the car, as in the cases in which he parks in a double queue to go in to buy something quickly.

In the latter case, we will receive the fine. But if we double stop, stay in the car for less than two minutes, and do not obstruct the road or endanger anyone’s safety, we can get rid of the penalty.
