Interview with Ali Ibrahim: Revolutionizing Iraq’s Industrial Sector with Electronic Services
Q: Thank you for joining us today, Ali Ibrahim. Can you share with us the recent developments regarding the Ministry of Industry’s push for electronic services in Iraq?
A: Thank you for having me. Today, I am pleased to report that the Ministry of Industry is making significant strides in activating the electronic window for industrial project approvals. This initiative is expected to drastically reduce the time required to obtain establishment approvals from the current lengthy process of up to three years, down to just 15 days. This change is pivotal, considering the pressing need for streamlined processes in our industrial sector.
Q: That sounds promising! What factors motivated the Ministry to implement this electronic application and payment system?
A: There is tremendous support from both the Prime Minister and the Minister of Industry for the private sector. They’ve recognized the challenges that bureaucratic delays have posed for industrialists. By launching this electronic application and payment service, which operates through Visa Card payment on the Ur electronic services portal, we aim to simplify procedures and encourage more investment in our burgeoning industry.
Q: Simplifying these procedures can surely have wide-reaching effects. How do you foresee this impacting industrialists looking to invest in Iraq?
A: The implications are significant. By reducing the time taken to secure necessary approvals, we are not only making it easier for existing industrialists to expand their operations but also attracting new investors to the market. The quicker turnaround time fosters a more business-friendly environment, ultimately benefiting the economy and creating jobs within the sector.
Q: What additional features does the unified electronic window offer to both local and foreign investors?
A: The unified electronic window will streamline the approval process across various sectoral authorities, ensuring that all necessary clearances are obtained efficiently. This integrated approach means investors can get a comprehensive view of the requirements and track their applications in real-time, making the whole experience much more manageable.
Q: Could you provide some practical advice for industrialists who are eager to take advantage of these new developments?
A: Certainly! I advise industrialists and potential investors to familiarize themselves with the Ur electronic services portal. They should take advantage of the guidance provided by our sector representatives during the application process. Additionally, staying connected with the Ministry will help them keep up-to-date with any new features or changes that may enhance their investment experience.
Q: Lastly, what is your vision for the future of Iraq’s industrial sector with these changes underway?
A: My vision is to see Iraq emerge as a competitive player in the region’s industrial landscape. With the activation of electronic services and continuous government support, we aim to build an efficient, transparent, and robust industrial sector that not only meets local demand but also positions itself for export opportunities. We are committed to fostering a sustainable and thriving industrial economy in Iraq.
