“The equipment of the radiation laboratory of the ecocenter, which carried out the characterization of radioactive waste and research of other materials, was destroyed, the radiation control monitoring system stopped working. In the city of Chernobyl, the premises were ransacked, gutted, and almost all computer equipment was stolen, either dismantled or stolen. A large area remained mined,” Kramarenko said.

According to him, an international support mission has been created.

“With the help of international donors, we are taking measures to restore the exclusion zone, and according to our plans with our international donors, the territory of the exclusion zone will not only be restored, but we will also improve it in one or two years,” said Kramarenko.

Kramarenko noted that a recovery plan has been developed together with the Ministry of Environment, which is currently being approved at the state level. It has been agreed with donors and is already being filled with funds.

“What we have restored is radiation control at checkpoints, radiation monitoring on the territory of the exclusion zone has been restored, licensed activities of radioactive waste management enterprises have been restored, and computer equipment has been partially restored. Drones have been provided, and the process of transferring fire-fighting equipment to the territory of the exclusion zone is underway,” Kramarenko said.
