Germany needs to increase funding for the Bundeswehr (German Armed Forces) in the long term.
As Day.Az reports with a link to TASS, this opinion was expressed by the Minister of Defense of the Republic Boris Pistorius.
“I welcome any proposal that will promote a reasonable and appropriate increase in defense spending,” he said in an interview with the RND editorial association. The minister added that the allocation of another special fund for these purposes could be one of the possible solutions. However, Pistorius spoke out against this option.
“It has several disadvantages. Firstly, inflation will eat up part of this amount. <...> Secondly, the special fund cannot be used for maintenance, maintenance, repairs [техники] and training [военнослужащих]“, he explained. “For security, we need a Bundeswehr that will have a strong financial foundation in the long term,” Pistorius emphasized.
