The IDB supports Argentina’s health system

by time news

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has approved a loan of 200 million dollars (180 million euros) to improve the Argentine health system for the benefit of more than 20.5 million people.

This operation seeks to reduce premature mortality and close the gaps in access to health services between the different administrations of Argentina. To this end, the initiative seeks to increase effective access to diagnostic and care services by the population that is exclusively covered by the public health system.

This initiative proposes, among other things, increasing cervical cancer check-ups in women with exclusive public coverage and increasing the vaccination rate for Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) for 11-year-old girls and boys. Another objective is to increase the identification and monitoring of people with high blood pressure and people with hyperglycemia or diabetes.

In addition, this operation will support the implementation of the Community Mental Health Model and will increase the number of mental health medications delivered to health facilities.

The IDB loan has a 3-year disbursement period, a 5.5-year grace period, and an interest rate based on SOFR.
