In the summer of 1989, a resident of Buda-Koshelevo unexpectedly became a widow. On the evening of July 19, her 51-year-old husband crossed the threshold of the house for the last time. Already at night the woman went to the morgue for identification.

Soon, terrible news spread throughout the small town – an electrical network worker was killed near the hotel. The man died from loss of blood resulting from a stab wound, the Investigative Committee is reconstructing the events of those times.

For more than 30 years, the murder was listed as unsolved. In the fall of 2022, employees of the Buda-Koshelevsky district department of the Investigative Committee, together with employees of the GUBOPiK, were able to unravel the crime.

A 64-year-old resident of Buda-Koshelevo, serving a 19-year sentence in a colony for attempted murder of an acquaintance, was under investigation. In 2020, a man stabbed his drinking companion with a knife during an argument. Before this, he had been prosecuted several times, starting at the age of 15.

The teenager, angry because of his father’s cruelty, was convicted for the first time for property crimes committed with his accomplices: theft from catering establishments, kiosks, a private home, and the robbery of an acquaintance. This was followed by trials for robbery, cases of causing bodily harm with a knife, threats to a people’s judge, murder, and attempted arson. After the first “imprisonment,” the defendant never admitted guilt and confused the investigation.

In total, the man spent 45 years behind bars.

In Buda-Koshelevo they were afraid of him and avoided him. That’s why a key witness in an unsolved murder spoke out three decades later. To collect evidence of the suspect’s guilt, investigators interrogated people from the environment of the murdered man and the person involved, conducted identification, confrontations, and checked the testimony of witnesses at the scene of the incident. Throughout the investigation, the suspect denied guilt, behaved impudently, and gave false testimony.

However, investigators found the following.

On the evening of July 19, 1989, the murdered man was walking with his son-in-law in Buda-Koshelevo. On the street they met two business travelers and helped them check into a hotel. The four of us drank there.

After a short gathering, the brothers-in-law left, walked around the city a little and said goodbye. The father-in-law, returning home, passed near the hotel. The future killer walked next to him. At this time, one of the business travelers was smoking on the porch.

He saw his friend’s companion stab him with a knife and run away. The visitor ran into the hotel and called an ambulance and the police. The wounded man died in hospital.

Based on the evidence collected in the case, the Buda-Koshelevsky district department of the Investigative Committee brought charges under Art. 101 (premeditated murder) of the Criminal Code (as amended in 1960). He faces up to 20 years in prison.
