The Joint Security Room holds its first meeting in Al-Assa

The Joint Security Chamber formed by decision of the Minister of the Interior of the Government of National Unity No. 389 of 2024 held its first meeting in the Al-Assa area, headed by the Chairman of the Chamber, Major General Abdul-Hakim Al-Khaitouni, and the Assistant Chairman of the Chamber, Moghaddam Ali Al-Jabri, and in the presence of all its members.

During the meeting, the mechanism of the Chamber’s work was discussed in coordination with the Chief of General Staff of the Libyan Army and the tasks assigned to it by monitoring, following up and combating the phenomenon of illegal immigration and the smuggling of fuel, drugs, psychotropic substances and goods of all kinds.

The distribution of tasks to security patrols was also discussed in order to establish security and order and demonstrate the state’s prestige in the border region with Tunisia, which extends from the sea in the north to the borders of the Al-Assa region in the south, and to support the security services and security directorates located from Sabratha to the Tunisian border.

Tasks were distributed to joint patrols and security stations to ensure tight control over the movement of motor vehicles on public roads, and to arrest criminals, wanted persons, suspects, and outlaws and refer them to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, according to what the Ministry of Interior’s media office reported.

It is noteworthy that the Chamber is also charged with implementing the Minister of Economy and Trade’s Resolution No. (61) of 2024 AD regarding banning the re-export of goods and products, and exchanging information between relevant agencies to unify efforts and tighten control.

Earlier, the Minister of the Interior in charge of the Government of National Unity, Imad Trabelsi, issued Resolution No. 389 of 2024 regarding the formation of a joint security room, consisting of staffed patrols equipped to monitor, follow up and combat the phenomenon of illegal immigration and the smuggling of fuel, drugs, psychotropic substances and goods of all kinds. And work to establish security and order and demonstrate the prestige of the state in the border region with sister Tunisia, extending from the sea in the north to the borders of the Al-Assa region in the south, and spread security, safety and reassurance among the people in the region.

The Chamber was also entrusted with the tasks of supporting the security services and security directorates located from Sabratha to the Tunisian border, conducting joint patrols and security positions, and establishing gates in the aforementioned area to ensure tight control over the movement of motor vehicles on the public road, ensuring the identity of their drivers and their companions, and arresting and referring criminals, wanted persons, suspects, and outlaws. To the Public Prosecutor’s Office, and intensify the security presence on the coastal road sufficiently before reaching the Ras Ijdir port.

The Chamber is working to implement the Minister of Economy and Trade’s Resolution No. (61) of 2024 regarding prohibiting the re-export of goods and products, coordinating and unifying efforts between the relevant security agencies, in addition to preventing the arrival of any armed vehicles or smuggled materials to the port, and exchanging information between the relevant agencies to unify efforts. And tight control.
