With an official ceremony and a solemn concert in the “Arena” hall, the management, teaching staff and students of “Baba Tonka” Secondary School in Ruse celebrated the 160th anniversary of the establishment of the educational institution. This was announced by the press center of Ruse Municipality.
“The honorable anniversary is a celebration of the educational institution, but also of the entire city. In addition to bringing achievements and glory to your school, you create individuals who have given their lives to Ruse and Bulgaria,” said Mayor Pencho Milkov in his greeting. He wished the students to continue to show their strength, and to the principal Galina Bobeva and the teachers – to remain as dedicated and innovative in their work.
The ceremony was also attended by the regional governor Danail Kovachev, the vice-rector of RU “Angel Kanchev” Assoc. Galina Ivanova, representatives of RUO – Ruse, heads of educational institutions in Ruse, long-time teachers and directors of the Mathematics High School.
The event honored the institution’s current faculty and looked back at its illustrious history. Graduates of MG “Baba Tonka” presented their musical performances.
The Mathematical Gymnasium was founded in 1864 as the Rousse Girls’ School. Since 1970, it has been profiled as a mathematical high school with specialized classes in mathematics, informatics and biology and with intensive study of the English language. Currently, there are nearly 700 students, divided into 26 classes.
