Today, Saturday, Environment Minister Nizar Amidi directed strict measures to be taken against polluting violations.
A statement from the ministry – received by the (INA) – said: “The Minister of Environment, Nizar Amidi, directed to double the surprise inspection tours to implement all the decisions of the distinguished Council of Ministers, including those related to the first and include points (2) and (3) of the decision, with the aim of following up on polluting activities and treating them.” Environmental violations in implementation of Cabinet Decisions No. (24777) taken from the forty-second regular session held on 10/15/2024.”
The statement added, “In this context and in response to monitoring and complaints from citizens, the Director General of the Environmental Awareness and Media Department, Amir Ali Al-Hassoun, carried out a surprise inspection tour that included the waste transfer station in the Karkh area and the Baghdad massacre, affiliated with the Ministry of Agriculture and within the borders of the Karkh Center municipality.”
Al-Hassoun was briefed – according to the statement – on the waste management mechanism at the station, where he observed a number of environmental violations, including the presence of secretions resulting from random slaughter mixed with regular waste, and the burning – from time to time – of some violators of large quantities of waste during the night hours. He visited the Baghdad massacre and recorded a set of observations related to the environmental determinants that must be followed in massacres.
Al-Hassoun pointed out – according to the statement – that “these tours come within a comprehensive plan to strengthen environmental control in all environmental directorates in the governorates in coordination with the relevant authorities. He also called on citizens to report any environmental violations according to the many means of communication that are available to the citizen 24 hours a day to contribute to protecting the environment.” Especially air pollution in Baghdad due to the many different activities throughout the capital, and the Ministry works according to a strategy to combat pollution and achieve sustainable development goals.”
He stressed that “preserving a clean environment is a shared responsibility between government institutions and society,” noting that “these field tours will continue to ensure immediate response to any environmental violations,” stressing “the Ministry of Environment’s commitment to taking all legal measures against violators.”
