The Ministry of Agriculture has been exempted from the responsibility of formulating separate policies for the processing of agricultural products as the Ministry of Industry has a policy for the development of agriculture and food processing industries.

The proposal was approved in the cabinet meeting held on Sunday (February 11) at the Prime Minister’s Office under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

After the meeting, Cabinet Secretary Mahbub Hossain gave this information to the reporters at the secretariat.

He said, the Ministry of Agriculture had a proposal. That is to relieve the Ministry of Agriculture from the responsibility of formulating a separate policy for the processing of agricultural products. This proposal has been approved.

The Cabinet Secretary said that when the National Agricultural Marketing Policy 2023 was approved in January last year, the Cabinet had given a direction to the Ministry of Agriculture to formulate a separate policy for the processing of agricultural produce. Already after giving this instruction, they have done a lot of work, they have come a long way; Also made a draft.

‘Then it was seen that at the end of the year the Ministry of Industry formulated the Agriculture and Food Processing Industry Development Policy, 2023. Which has been issued as per Cabinet decision.’

He said, it was seen that the activities of these two are almost the same. If another one is done now, then there may be a duality, if the Ministry of Agriculture presented it today, the Cabinet said that there is no need for a new one. However, if any subject is omitted which is not in the industry policy, then it will be proposed and updated. New ones will not be made anymore, as a result, the Ministry of Agriculture has been exempted from this responsibility.
