Employees of the Ministry of Digital Development are prohibited from using Apple equipment for official purposes. This was announced to journalists at the Digital Evolution forum by the head of the ministry, Maksut Shadayev.
“A ban is being introduced on the use of mobile devices, respectively smartphones and tablets, to access work applications and access work correspondence. No more restrictions are being introduced,” Mr. Shadayev said, noting that if it is not possible to use a phone with Android OS, then an employee must use computer equipment to access mail and workflow (quote from Interfax). It is not planned to buy Android gadgets for employees for work purposes, the minister added.
After the FSB said in June that several thousand Apple devices of Russian diplomats had been infected by US intelligence agencies with malware, the Kremlin felt that the use of iPhones in civil service was “unacceptable and prohibited.” Against this background, Apple equipment was banned from use in the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and Rostec.
