Since its launch in 2022, the Moskvich plant has already produced about 27,000 cars, stated commercial director of the automobile plant Alexander Migal in an interview with TASS.
“Currently we have produced about 27,000 cars, and next year we are planning 50,000, more than 9,500 cars have been sold,” he said.
Migal added that the plant plans to launch a full cycle assembly in 2024, and to introduce an electric car in 2025. Now the company has begun independently welding bodies. The main priority for the management of Moskvich, in his opinion, is the localization of production, since it will make it less dependent on the ruble exchange rate.
Now in Russia, Migal noted, more than 80 official sales points have been opened in more than 50 cities, and by the end of the year a network of about 90 dealership centers is expected to be formed. The main sales volumes are still concentrated in Moscow and St. Petersburg, but the company is also recording an increase in sales in the Volga region and the Urals.
French Renault, which left the Russian Federation after the start of a special operation in Ukraine, owned a plant in Moscow where Renault crossovers were produced, as well as a stake of almost 68% in the largest domestic automaker AvtoVAZ. As a result of the agreements reached, the French company transferred its share in AvtoVAZ to the state institute NAMI, subordinate to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, for 1 ruble. with the option to return within six years. For the same price, the Renault Russia plant was given to the Moscow government, but without the right to repurchase shares.
It was possible to restart production at the automobile plant, to which the capital authorities gave the historical name “Moskvich,” by the end of November 2022. The technological partner of the Moscow government in this project was “Kamaz” The parties agreed on a parity distribution of shares in the capital of the enterprise and investments in it of 5 billion rubles. “Kamaz” contributed to the fact that the modern “Moskvich” was based on the cars of the Chinese corporation JAC. It is a partner of Kamaz on the Compass commercial van project.
