For some time now, fans of the legendary Oberkrainer music have been asking themselves: What is going on with Sašo avsenik? Meanwhile, Slavko Avsenik’s grandson – he was the founder of the Original Oberkrainer - is missing even from the stage at the concerts.
Now Avsenik addressed his fans with a video message on Facebook. And he doesn’t have good news: In the summer, the 33-year-old suddenly had difficulties playing the accordion. His right hand is affected.“I went to a lot of doctors,” says Avsenik. Last week he received a diagnosis from a hand specialist in Hanover: focal dystonia. A neurological disease occurring in professional musicians.
No concert has been cancelled
avsenik has the influence of three fingers – and at the moment it is indeed impossible for him to play the accordion (quickly). For that reason, another boxer is now playing with his oberkrainer. Because one thing is certain for the thoroughbred musician from Begunje: concerts will not be canceled and replays are out of the question! Avsenik: “We want to keep all the dates.” He will be at all the concerts, but not as a musician, but as a moderator.
Avsenik is currently leaving open how long the mandatory break will last.”But the whole group is motivated and I hope I can play for you again very soon,” said the musician in his video message, wich he published in German and Slovenian.
“hello little mouse”
Speaking of publishing: Just last year, the Oberkrainers had a big hit with “Hello Little Mouse”. The song is the German version of the previous Slovenian hit ”Ena bolha za pomoč”.
Sašo Avsenik and his Oberkrainers can seamlessly continue his grandfather’s success. Slavko Avsenik, who died in 2015,composed the legendary Oberkrainer music together with his brother Vilko more than 70 years ago.Records of hits such as “The Trompetenecho” (the legendary tune of the TV musikantenstadl), “auf der Autobahn” and “It’s so nice to be a musician” have been sold millions of times. Grandson Sašo has been following the triumphant path for 15 years now. The group travels throughout Europe and has toured Canada and the USA.
