“Now we will vote with more force, more rebellion and more desire in the Primaries. Here who empowers is the people of Venezuela. Until the end is UNTIL THE END! ”, María Corina Machado expressed at the top of her lungs with a microphone in hand when responding to the disqualification for 15 years that the government of Nicolás Maduro imposed against her.

The Chavista deputy José Brito requested this Thursday that the Comptroller General (court of accounts) make it public that the opposition leader Machado, registered for the opposition primaries scheduled for October, “will be disqualified from internal opposition elections,” which would prevent him from participating in the 2024 presidential elections.

In its response, the Comptroller General of Venezuela determined that Machado will be disqualified in the next 15 years from holding any position in the Public Administration.

This is inconsistent with what he decided in 2015 when he disqualified her for a year for not having included “concepts” of a labor nature in his affidavit of assets, for which reason he could not run again as a deputy that year.

The restrictive measure expired the following year in 2016 and María Corina I would be free of all bureaucratic guilt for not supposedly filling out the entire form of his estate. But now the Comptroller’s Office is once again dusting off the file to arbitrarily prevent him from participating in the primaries, the presidential elections and every election that comes up in the future.

His family has excelled in the field of the metallurgical and steel industry, which the regime has expropriated and confiscated when Chavismo began in the early years of the 21st century.

Favorite in the polls

This is the second attempt that the regime uses to remove the electoral game from the poll favorite. The first was the also pro-government deputy Luis Ratti, who accuses Machado of being financed by former Colombian presidents Iván Duque and Álvaro Uribe, and of “treason against the Homeland” for invoking foreign intervention in the national conflict.

Being the favorite of all the polls where it surpasses its closest rival in the primaries by more than 23 points, we cite the most recent poll by Hinterlaces, a consultancy linked to Chavismo where María Corina Machado leads with a voting intention of 48% , followed by Chavista Benjamín Rausseo who declined at the last minute, with 25%; Manuel Rosales, with 9% and Henrique Capriles Radonski, with 8%.

From the Democratic Unitary Platform, unanimously, “we reject the unconstitutional disqualification against Maria Corina Machado,” the opposition said this Friday in its statement.

rated as “clear violation of political rights of the Venezuelans. Faced with this new aggression, the Unitary Platform ratifies its unwavering commitment to building unity with the people of Venezuela through the Primary election on October 22. United to change Venezuela!

Without appearing surprised by the news, Machado, who on Thursday was touring the state of Barinas, the homeland of the late Hugo Chávez, assured that he will not abandon his electoral plans.

“This regime that is inventing everything to get me out of the way, that is now inventing a supposed disqualification, know something, when we have said that this fight is until the end, it is until the end,” he emphasized.

“There is only one entity, only one voice that empowers and that is the people of Venezuela,” she stressed at her rally, referring to the Chavista representative who intends to disable her. “Nothing the regime does surprises us.”

The disqualification of opponents does not prevent their participation in the primary elections scheduled for October 22, to which some 14 candidates have registered, whose favorite continues to be María Corina, who has already declared that she will continue with more force to be the single opposition candidate who will face Maduro in the 2024 presidential elections.

This 15-year disqualification against Machado is “an unconstitutional, unfounded, and shameful action,” said Henrique Capriles, a former unitary presidential candidate in 2012 and 2013.

“We categorically reject this new example of the anti-democratic course of Maduro and his regime. They will not be able to take away the hope of Venezuelans for a change to have a better country! This disqualification, like ours and that of other opposition leaders, is illegitimate, unjustified and, above all, unconstitutional,” he said in his tweet.

“Maduro and the institutions that he controls follow the worst path of designing an election that will only bring more economic, social and political crisis. They make it clear that no one is really empowered under this dictatorship! Now, we must never leave Venezuelans without a choice,” added the former presidential candidate.

“We have to continue the fight to recover democracy, with more votes, more participation. Let the people decide, not Maduro. Democrats must stand strong and not give up our right to vote. If we are banned, we must work even harder to get our people to the polls. United, we demand an end to the disqualifications and respect for the rule of law,” said Capriles.

question marks

The disqualification of María Corina leaves in question the legitimate, legal and political conditions on how the opposition unitary candidate will be able to face next year’s presidential elections if there are restrictions on that unitary candidacy that cannot challenge them or overcome the simple desire of the candidates opponents who reject autocracies.

“All this disqualification neither surprises nor worries me,” said María Corina Machado, but He did not explain how he will face the legal obstacle if she were the unitary candidate. The answer is not in her hands, for now, and everything will depend on the political and social conditions of the coming year, “Everything changes,” she told Clarionalready at “breakneck speed in Venezuela,” he said optimistically.

The president of Colombia Gustavo Petro also spoke of the disqualification of the opposition member Machado: “It is clear that no administrative authority should take away political rights from any citizen.”

For his part, the director of the consulting firm Datanalisis, Luis Vicente León, said on the networks that “disqualifications violate democracy. And even so, the opposition response must be to use them as a mechanism for unification, motivation to vote, and a symbol of democratic struggle. Abstention would be worse than disqualification, because far from fighting it I would play along with it”.

The white T-shirts with the inscription “Until the end” of her supporters who accompany her tours do not give up either and defy the authorities that they are going to go all the way, a contagious electoral slogan that will say its last word at the polls the primaries.
