The district court in Kyustendil placed under house arrest the border policemen accused of accepting a bribe and detained the Albanians who gave the bribe. This was announced by the court in Kyustendil. The meeting was held behind closed doors and lasted nearly five hours.

The two Albanian citizens A.G., 60 years old, and S.L., 39 years old, who have dual citizenship, have been brought in by the District Prosecutor’s Office as defendants for the fact that on March 23, around 11:00 p.m. at the border control crossing point (crossing point) “Gyueshevo” in complicity, as co-perpetrators, they bribed G.V., 38 years old, and I.S., 49 years old – the two employees of the “Gyueshevo” border crossing point, officials – civil servants of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, for to violate their official duties in connection with the implementation of border checks at the checkpoint. The goal was for the police to allow S. L. to leave the Republic of Bulgaria for the Republic of North Macedonia without being sanctioned for overstaying in Bulgaria. The amount of the bribe is 150 euros.

The court took a measure of remand “house arrest” in relation to the two employees of the Gyueshevo border crossing under the Regional Directorate “Border Police”, brought by the District Prosecutor’s Office as defendants for being a public servant of the Ministry of the Interior, have accepted the money to commit another crime in connection with their service by violating their official duties.

According to the court, at this early stage of the investigation, sufficient evidence has been collected and a reasonable assumption can be made about the complicity of the accused in committing the acts for which they have been charged, which are defined as serious crimes in the sense of the Criminal Code.

According to the court, there is also a real danger for Albanian citizens to commit another crime and abscond. With regard to the accused officials of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the court considers that no conclusion can be drawn about a real danger of absconding. They both have a permanent address where they live with their families. They have no previous convictions.

However, according to the court, there is an opportunity for the two to have an impact on witnesses if they suffer the lightest measure of procedural coercion, but it is enough to take a remand measure of “house arrest”.

The ruling is subject to appeal and protest before the Court of Appeals – Sofia within 3 days, starting today.
