53% of students who study information technology would like to leave Russia, RBC said with reference to the results of a survey of the GeekBrains platform (part of the VK ecosystem). More than 5,000 respondents who study IT, of different genders and from different cities of Russia, took part in the survey.

25% of the respondents who would like to leave Russia would like to move to the USA, 7% – to the UK, 6% – to Germany, 5% – to Canada, 23% – to other countries. 34% of respondents found it difficult to choose a country.

In early 2021, the Ministry of Finance announced that the shortage of qualified personnel in the Russian IT sector is from 500,000 to 1 million people a year. According to Habr Career, in the first half of 2021, the average salary of IT specialists in Russia increased by 6.2% compared to the second half of last year and amounted to 120,000 rubles. The salaries of specialists in the regions increased by 13.7%, up to 100,000 rubles. The growth in Moscow amounted to 6.7%, to 160,000 rubles, in St. Petersburg – by 3.8%, to 135,000 rubles.
