The representative of the United Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Iraq, Salah Al-Hajj Hassan, confirmed today, Friday, that the actions of Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani have had a positive impact on wheat production in Iraq.

Hassan told the (INA): “The Ministry of Agriculture, according to government directives, played a fundamental role in achieving self-sufficiency for the wheat crop, which is considered the most important strategic crop in the world.”

He added, “Iraq witnessed significant rainfall in central and southern Iraq last year, more compared to the northern regions. As for the current year, the northern governorates witnessed large amounts of rainfall, which contributed positively to the productivity of organic crops, especially in areas that depend on organic agriculture.”

He pointed out that “there will be an expected increase in the productivity of agricultural crops during the current year compared to last year by a rate of no less than (10-15%) as a total increase in the productivity of the strategic wheat crop, which will reflect positively on food security in the country.”

Hassan explained, “There are great efforts, especially at the Basra Climate Conference last year, during which the Prime Minister announced a set of steps to which the government committed and the Ministry of Agriculture followed up with regard to technologies or facilitating the introduction and support of sprinklers and other measures that positively affected the crop.” “Wheat.”
