In an interview with the German magazine “Der Spiegel”, Kavoli warned that the Russian armed forces will be a dangerous opponent for the alliance, despite serious losses in the war in Ukraine.
“At the end of the war in Ukraine, whatever it looks like, the Russian army will be stronger than it is now,” Kavoli said.
He said NATO should not harbor illusions about Russia’s military power.
“The Russian armed forces are learning, they are improving, they are using the experience of the war,” said the NATO general.
Cavoli called on NATO to quickly prepare for this threat, as Russia will be an adversary with serious military capabilities and “clear intentions”.
“That’s why we need to be ready, and we need an armed force that can face it,” the US general said.
In Kavoli’s assessment, the alliance’s new defense plans and the resulting additional requirements for individual NATO partners must be implemented quickly.
“When I say fast, I mean we have to be faster than the Russians,” the general said.
We remind you that the head of the German Federal Intelligence Service (BND), Bruno Kahl, expressed the opinion that Russia will be able to attack NATO territory within the next six years.
Polish President Andrzej Duda has said that Russia may soon have such a military potential that it will be able to attack NATO as early as 2026 or 2027.
