A united opposition front, which for the first time gives parliamentary status to the existing social opposition with the main issue being the crime of Tempe, but not only, is faced by the government in the context of the discussion of the motion of censure submitted by PASOK – KIN.AL. and co-signed by the majority of parties.

In view of the European elections, where the social reaction is expected to be expressed on a series of issues such as accuracy, the National Social Security System, the rule of law, the opposition parties “come together” to express a strong opposition voice, as stated by the MP from Ioannina of the New Left Meropi Tsoufi, even if this does not signal electoral cooperation.

“It is important in the run-up to the elections to register this opposition in any way. We will hardly have more coincidences, society’s demand at the moment is for an opposition, there is both social and political opposition and at the moment there is also a parliamentary one. A strong message must be sent to the New Democracy that it cannot stand with arrogance and cynicism in the face of problems and violate all the rules”, noted Ms. Tzouffi.

Mrs. Tzoufi noted that the New Left had submitted a proposal to the progressive opposition parties to co-sign a motion of no confidence for the violation of Article 16 of the Constitution. “Then they did not choose to co-sign for petty political reasons. We do not play such games and we co-sign the proposal submitted by PASOK”, he noted and added that the proposal has as its purpose the attempt to cover up the crime of Tempe, but comes in the wake of many other issues, such as wiretapping, the condemnation by the European Parliament on the rule of law, the leak of personal data and the case of Ms. Asimakopoulou, the issues of accuracy and profiteering. “We have in front of us a completely arrogant government, which deals with problems in a cynical way,” he noted.

“Bell” for environment, health and education

New Left Member of Parliament Meropi Tzoufis was not satisfied with the answers she received from the relevant ministers to parliamentary questions about the Pamvotida Lake Presidential Decree and health.

Regarding the first, after the response of the Minister of the Environment Theodoros Skylakakis in the Parliament, Meropi Tzoufi noted that there was no commitment as to when the Pamvotida Presidential Decree would be signed, but much more on whether there would be a change in its demarcation lake and funding for the necessary ecosystem protection projects.

“We see that in an important issue for our region and beyond, the government responds that taking care of the climate, which is also the basic European treaty that we are asked to implement, is the result of money, so we will have to accept other types of interventions in the environment , in order to protect this”, noted Mrs. Tzouffi, to continue with the issues of education and health.

Regarding the establishment of non-state universities, he noted, beyond the unconstitutionality of the law, the significant implications for regional universities and especially for the University of Ioannina, which has suffered a 22% reduction in students since the implementation of the Minimum Admission Base.

He also announced even worse developments in the field of public health than the bill that is expected and provides for the abolition of full and exclusive employment in the National Health System.

“With serious understaffing problems, instead of proceeding with appointments, salary increases, fiscal and scientific incentives, Mr. Georgiadis’ answers are that all of these burden the budget. If someone wants money to work in the evenings, burdening the citizen”, noted Mrs. Tzouffi, adding that there should be a reaction, beyond the trade union bodies, and from wider bodies such as the self-government. He spoke of an image of the complete abolition of the public health system, at a time when afternoon surgeries have been tested in other countries and, according to studies, have led to a burden on the quality of patient care.

In the euro-ballot process

Finally, in view of the European elections, the New Left is in the process of compiling the ballot. Next weekend there will be a meeting of the temporary central committee, where the Euro declaration will be made and the action plan will be set. In this context, tomorrow Wednesday, at 7.30 pm, members and friends of the party are invited to the conference center of the Epirus Region (Stoa Sarka), in order to express their views on the European ballot.
