Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) President Farooq Hasan said efforts are being made to set an ambitious target of 100 billion US dollars export revenue in the garment sector by 2030.

He said this while visiting a garment factory in Adamji EPZ on Monday (March 25).

The BGMEA president said Bangladeshi garment exporters are increasingly focusing on product diversification to move up the supply chain. They are particularly emphasizing on complex and high quality non-cotton garments like jackets, underwear, sportswear, suits, uniforms, technical wear. BGMEA, the apex trade body representing the apparel sector, has taken several initiatives including industry leadership to accelerate this shift towards high-end products.

Farooq Hasan said that he visited some garment factories of Adamji EPZ to see the production of high quality garment products.

The BGMEA president interacted with the management officials of Universal Menswear Ltd., Suad Garments Industries Ltd., UNESCO, UHM Ltd. and Remy Holdings Ltd. while visiting the factories to get an idea of ​​the potential of such garments in the global market.

Farooq Hasan discussed possible ways to increase Bangladesh’s capacity to produce and export high-end garments. He emphasized on exploiting the opportunities of non-cotton fiber based products from diversification perspective.

He said, ‘By moving towards the non-cotton and high-end segments, Bangladesh can not only exploit the global market opportunities, but also establish itself as an important player in the global fashion industry.’

Farooq Hasan said, ‘It is very gratifying that many garment factories are now moving towards creating high quality and value added products and investing in innovation and technological upgradation.’ He also urged other garment factories to come forward in manufacturing high-end products.
