The stakes are escalating on Season 4 of “The Traitors,” with shocking eliminations and a controversial banishment dominating Episodes 4 and 5, released January 15.The reality competition series, known for its intricate web of deceit and alliances, continues to deliver dramatic twists as faithfuls and Traitors alike navigate a treacherous game.
Early Losses and a Secret Traitor Revealed
Prior to Episodes 4 and 5, the game had already seen the departure of Ian Terry, a “Big Brother” alum, and Porsha Williams, both initially believed to be Faithfuls. The elimination of Rob Cesternino, another Faithful, further thinned the ranks. Though, the biggest surprise came with the banishment of Donna Kelce, who was secretly a Traitor – a revelation unknown to both her fellow players and the audience.
A Housewife Falls Victim to Internal strife
Episode 4 opened with a chilling turn of events: the murder of Caroline Stanbury by fellow contestants. Stanbury, visibly shaken, revealed that she felt someone was “coming” for her. While another Traitor,Rob Rausch, was pleased by this advancement, fellow Traitor Candiace dillard Basset expressed concern, noting the focus on Mitchell was becoming too obvious.
At the Round Table, Underwood pressed for Mitchell’s banishment. Mitchell, in turn, had identified Arocho, Funches, and Rapaport as potential targets. The debate intensified when Nam presented evidence against Mitchell – a laugh he overheard near the trees the previous night. As more players voiced their suspicions, Bassett cautioned against repeating past mistakes, referencing the banishment of Portia. Mitchell, visibly emotional, ultimately faced a near-unanimous vote and was banished.Upon revealing her status as a Faithful, she expressed pride in her gameplay and lamented that the others “didn’t deserve” her loyalty.
Episode 5: A Pattern Broken and a Controversial Banishment
The Traitors continued their strategic eliminations in Episode 5, choosing Monet X Change as their next victim. This decision was motivated by a desire to disrupt the perceived patterns of targeting “gamers and housewives.” Following her elimination, Monet quipped, “Damn, damn, damn, they got your girl,” and vowed to haunt the remaining contestants.
The episode culminated in a heated round Table discussion and the banishment of Michael Rapaport. The conflict began with a challenge from Bassett for Rapaport to address his earlier outburst directed at Underwood. Rapaport launched into a tirade, which initially appeared effective until he made a comment regarding Underwood’s personal life.
“There it is,” Underwood responded, referencing Rapaport’s insinuation about his past. Rapaport attempted to clarify, stating, “No, no, no, I think that has nothing to do with it,” but the damage was done. The conversation quickly shifted to Underwood’s journey coming out as gay, and the cast overwhelmingly condemned Rapaport’s remark as a “low blow.”
Ultimately, the majority voted to banish Rapaport, who revealed himself to be a Faithful. He maintained his aggressive approach was a product of being “backed into a corner” and apologized for the insensitive comment, clarifying that it was unrelated to Underwood’s sexuality. He concluded, “I played hard and you know, I played a good game, except for when it went a little too far, which sucks.” The cast dubbed the entire ordeal “The Michael Show,” but the game continues, with Episode 6 scheduled for release on January 22.
