The new XQ-67A reconnaissance drone, developed in the United States, made its first flight. As Day.Az reports, The War Zone (TWZ) magazine reported on the progress of testing the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV).

According to the publication, the flight took place at one of the training grounds in the US state of California. We are talking about an object owned by General Atomics Aeronautical Systems (GA-ASI).

The material clarifies that the mentioned drone was designed for the US Air Force (Air Force). The work was carried out as part of the Off-Board Sensing Station (OBSS) program, the main goal of which is to place a variety of sensors from the lead aircraft on the slave UAV.

“This is the first type of drone built and flown using a common chassis core developed by GA-ASI, facilitating commonality across multiple aircraft types,” said Michael Atwood, the company’s vice president of advanced programs.

At the same time, journalists found out that the developers equipped the XQ-67A with a retractable tricycle landing gear and wings with a low sweep angle. In addition, the aircraft received a V-shaped tail. The authors of the article also drew attention to certain panels on the body of the UAV, which may turn out to be antennas from side-scan radars.
