Republican and Democratic lawmakers in the US Senate reached a last-minute agreement on a budget vote, averting a possible government shutdown.

ABC News reports this.

The decision was made in the final moments before the deadline, which was set for midnight local time. The voting collapse threatened to shut down work in 70% of the United States. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer gave two thumbs up in a flashy demonstration to reporters that the deal was complete. Thus, the Senate passed a $1.2 trillion package.

Following an agreement between representatives of both parties through the legislative process, a number of amendments were brought to a vote shortly after midnight. This turn of events technically led to the temporary expiration of American funding, creating some tension for a brief period of time.

Previously, Cursor wrote that the Knesset adopted the revised budget for 2024, which takes into account the country’s military needs, after the successful completion of the second and third readings. For the current year, a budget of 584.1 billion shekels has been approved, which is 70.4 billion more than the previous budget adopted in May 2023, even before the outbreak of hostilities.

In addition, Cursor reported that the US Senate passed a $95.3 billion aid package intended for Israel, Ukraine and Taiwan. The move was the result of months of complex negotiations and comes amid growing political divisions within the Republican Party over the United States’ role abroad.
