Shocking reports have emerged that two-thirds of women serving in the Australian Parliament have experienced sexual harassment.
The country’s Commissioner for the Prevention of Sexual Assault, Kate Jenkins, has released the information.
He also noted that the status of female MPs is at risk. Allegations of harassment, sexual harassment and sexual harassment in parliamentary offices were investigated.
Nearly 500 people were interviewed, including current and former politicians and staff. Most of the participants were women.
Women (40 percent) experience more sexual harassment than men in these workplaces (26 percent). More than half (51 percent) of those surveyed have been victims of bullying or sexual harassment at least once.
Commenting on the study, Prime Minister Scott Morrison said the report was “regrettable”.
It is noteworthy that the report on the Australian Parliamentary work environment has been released in the wake of various sexual harassment complaints, which have been ordered for an independent inquiry.
