Foreign Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmood said there is no alternative to strong global partnerships, collective action and fair and inclusive adequate funding for developing countries to combat climate change.

He said that the supply of funds for developing countries is gradually decreasing. But, it is the need of the hour to ensure adequate funding for these countries to adapt and adapt to global climate change.

The minister said this at a forum titled ‘Causes and Effects: Two-pronged fight against climate change’ organized as a side meeting of the annual International Security Conference in Munich, Germany on Friday evening (February 16) local time. This information has been informed in the press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Despite having the lowest carbon emissions (0.48% of global emissions), Bangladesh is one of the countries most threatened by climate change. Referring to this, environmentalist Hashan Mahmud said that Bangladesh has been identified as a unique example to the world in dealing with climate change. A flagship plan in the field is the ‘Mujib Climate Prosperity Plan’.

At the forum, the foreign minister highlighted the policies and programs of Bangladesh including sea level rise, salinity increase in the coastal areas of Bangladesh, drought in the northern region, storms in the southern region, tides, climate change trust fund to combat the occurrence of floods, Bangladesh Delta Plan 2100 and National Adaptation Plan.

In the forum, the panelists such as Norway’s Minister of International Development Ann Beith Tvinerim, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani, United Arab Emirates’ Minister of Climate Change and Environment Maryam bint Mohammed Said Almeiri emphasized on global coordinated efforts.
