Birth of an antelope at the La Aurora Zoo was captured on video
In a moving event that has captured the hearts of thousands of spectators, the La Aurora Zoo witnessed the birth of a scimitar oryx antelope breedinga species currently declared endangered by the IUCN Red List.
The emotional moment was shared by user @leticial.ga through her TikTok account last Sunday, March 17, allowing the entire world to witness this unique event.
The video, which has accumulated more than 25 thousand interactions, shows the precise moment in which the mother gives birth to her calf in her enclosure at the zoo.
After giving birth, both the mother and another antelope present at the site approached the newborn, providing care and protection in its first moments of life. We confirmed with the zoo and the calf is healthy.

About the scimitar oryx
Its scientific name is Oryx dammah and also known as the Sahara oryx or simply scimitar, is an antelope native to North Africa, particularly desert and semi-arid regions such as the Sahara.
It is characterized by its long straight horns that can measure up to 1 meter and its white and brown fur. On the upper part of its body and head it has a light brown color, while on its belly and legs it has a white color.
It can measure between 1.20 and 1.40 meters. It feeds on herbs and bushes.
