The National Working Group for the Investigation of Violence Based on Sexual Orientation and/or Gender Identity of the Prosecutor’s Office has initiated an ex officio investigation against the councilor of Cali, Andrés Escobar.

Due to alleged acts of discrimination based on gender identity, the Prosecutor’s Office is advancing this investigation. This arises after a publication made on the social network X directed towards Charlotte Schneider Callejasdirector for Women in Paid Sexual Activities at the Ministry of Equality and Equity.

The publication in question included a photo of Charlotte Schneider accompanied by the phrase “happy petrian men’s day«. This comment caused a negative reaction among users of the social network, who considered that it could constitute a violation of the rights of Schneider Callejas, a renowned activist for LGTBI rights and member of the Ministry of Equality and Equity.

Although Escobar later deleted the publication from his social networks, some users managed to capture the contentraising questions about his comment and raising the possibility that he incited hatred against the LGTBI population.

The now councilor Andrés Escobar has been involved in controversies. He was previously accused of allegedly shooting at protesters during the national strike in 2021. Later, in June last year, the Prosecutor’s Office charged him with various crimes, including usurpation of public functions, use or throwing of dangerous substances or objects, and aggravated threats. .
