  • The most sought-after spring vegetables are available to the people of Plovdiv for a fiver and even higher prices
  • Aren’t the traders ashamed, the producers from the Thracian lowland are resentful

An unprecedented collapse in the purchase price marks the lettuce week before Easter, where it is a main ingredient in the holiday salad. Producers from the region of Petrich and Sandanski offer it for 10-20 cents a piece, a check by “24 Chasa” this morning at the stock exchange in the village of Plodovitovo showed. At the same time, the lettuce in question is sold for BGN 1.50 in the market next to the Rowing Base in Plovdiv.

“Aren’t they ashamed”, the producers from Plovdiv were stunned.

They are shocked by the collapse in the purchase price of green salad and wonder how their colleagues from the Petrich and Sandanski region are getting their bills.

“They sell it for 10 cents. They drive whole buses for 300 kilometers in one direction. They can’t pay for the fuel alone. They are obviously given some subsidies and it doesn’t matter to them how much they sell it for. Two buses came from there that night with 100 boxes , they released them at 20, and then they lowered them to 10 cents, the resellers were afraid to take it, and the producers in question left with only 100 leva. What can they cover with them – costs for seeds, fertilizers, preparations, fuel”, wondered Elena Kostadinova from the Plovdiv village of Chalakovi.

She had a greenhouse with about 2,500 lettuces. She expected to sell them at least 50 cents. He managed to sell only six cartons for 40 cents this morning. Yesterday afternoon, she killed them, loaded them in the car and at 12 midnight left for Plodovitovo.

“I want to at least pay off my expenses and I won’t set foot on the stock market again. I’ll go through the entire greenhouse with the cutter and that’s it,” vowed Elena, who left at 7 in the morning.

A “24 Chasa” reporter compared the prices of other vegetables on the market and after two hours went to one of the markets in Plovdiv. “A bunch of fresh onions in Plodovitovo was sold this morning between 20 and 30 cents. At retail in the second city, it goes for levche. A bunch of radishes wholesale was offered for 50 cents, and on the market in Plovdiv – 1.50. The pink tomato on the exchange was BGN 2.50, and on the market in the second city – 5.50. They buy it wholesale for BGN 0.70, and to Plovdiv residents it is sold for BGN 2. Cucumbers in Plodovitovo were 2.50 this morning on the hills – BGN 4.50 – 5.

The comment, as they say, is redundant.
