The UN Security Council has 15 member states. It has 5 permanent member states and 10 temporary member states. Temporary member states are elected every 2 years. The organization is chaired by one member country per month. As such, India, which is leading the month of December, is debating 2 key issues. It was presided over by Union External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.
In particular, a discussion on ‘International Counter-Terrorism Approach Principles and Way Forward’ will be held today on the 15th.

Earlier in yesterday’s consultative meeting, countries’ recovery from the effects of the Corona pandemic, climate change, terrorism and conflicts were discussed. Speaking then, Pakistan Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto raised the Kashmir issue.

Responding to that, Indian Foreign Minister Jaishankar said, “We continue to focus on the need for multilateral cooperation, in which countries of the world should not delay in establishing a consensus policy.
We are trying to reach a better solution on many issues like climate change, counter terrorism. These councils must condemn cross-border terrorism. The country that gave asylum to Osama bin Laden, the country that launched the terrorist attack on the neighboring country’s parliament, is the UN. He is not qualified to preach in them.”
