Property rental prices in the tourist areas across the country soar during the summer season.

The sums demanded by the owners to grant their properties to workers to work seasonally, or to entrepreneurs who need them to host their staff, are exorbitant. At the same time, the supply is limited anyway, with the result that workers and businesses are on the verge of a nervous breakdown.

The magnitude of desperation, from workers who are hired to work eight hours for 1,200 euros net and end up working 12 hours, without a single day off with a few extra “black” in hand, is huge because they either end up living in containers or in apartments that are literally “holes” ”, one on top of the other, with a shared toilet, paying exorbitant amounts.

For example, the prices at play are from 1,000 euros for a “chicken” warehouse with a 25 sq.m. toilet, or around 4,000 euros per month for a small two-room apartment where usually more than 5 people live.

“Even the ‘shacks’ are called ‘studios’ and are made available to house workers for a very high price,” point out industry professionals. In fact, most of the property owners want the money all up front without many of them cutting receipts.

At the same time, there is no shortage of cases where companies rent plots that have containers which their owners have converted into houses. Already the advertisements for this type of housing (!) are increasing. In particular these houses are rented for foreign workers to live. In the marketing of these companies that have them, they point out that an 18 square meter container room can accommodate 5 iron frame beds while also presenting the additional utilities they have, stressing that in addition to accommodation, the containers can also serve as offices, even and kitchens.

Of course, there are no shortage of cases where very large companies or hotels have taken care to provide housing for their staff, even building entire buildings just to reduce the cost of accommodation for their employees over time.
