‘Towards the best performance’, at the start of the Acoi Congress

For four days Riva del Garda becomes the capital of Italian surgery. From Sunday 18th to Wednesday 21st September, the extraordinary naturalistic context of Trentino will host the 40th Congress of the Italian Hospital Surgeons Association (Acoi), entitled ‘Proud to be surgeons, towards the best performance’. Over 1,800 already accredited Italian surgeons meet at the Congress Center to discuss in 63 scientific sessions scheduled. Acoi communicates it in a note. The appointment, declares the president of the association, Marco Scatizzi, “aims to be a scientific guide for thousands of surgeons and a stimulus to those who will govern the country: let us rediscover pride and courageously reform our National Health Service”.

Greetings from Mario Tonina, vice president of the Autonomous Region of Trentino-Alto Adige, are expected to open on Sunday at 4 pm; Achille Spinelli, Councilor for Economic Development, Research and Labor of the Autonomous Province of Trento, and the mayor of Riva del Garda Cristina Santi. Sports champions Pietro Sighel, an Italian short track skater, and Luca de Alipradini, an Italian alpine skier, specialist in giant slalom, will also participate in the inaugural ceremony. The congress will begin with a report by President Scatizzi, to draw attention to the central themes of the health professions, with a focus on the world of 7,400 Italian surgeons. Covid and the PNRR, National Recovery and Resilience Plan, will be at the center of the first round table (at 5 pm) coordinated by the journalist Manuela Moreno, which will see the participation of Giancarlo Ruscitti from the Department of Health and Social Policies, Autonomous Province of Trento; Tommaso Pellegrino, surgeon, regional councilor in Campania; Domenico Mantoan, general manager of Agenas; Fernanda Gellona, ​​general manager of Confindustria medical devices; Enrico Castanini, sole director of Liguria Digitale; Francesco Gabbrielli, director of the National Center for Telemedicine and New Assistive Technologies, Iss, Rome.

From Monday to Wednesday, in addition to the issues related to surgery, also those relating to training, legal protection and problems relating to savings and new protocols in health will be addressed. Ample space for workshops, symposia, training: 325 video contributions, 176 oral contributions, scientific insights and demonstrations of new surgical robotic systems.

Ample space – continues the note – will be given to the prevention of surgical site infections, environmental sustainability and technology, the reduction of hospitalization times and complications. Finally, with Acoi Giovani Handcraft Section basic training courses and workshops are planned for the new generation of surgeons.
