Trump campaign raises more than $10 million since news broke that politician would be indicted – News

Donald Trump became the first former US president to be indicted in a criminal case on Tuesday (4). The case was widely followed by the press and exposed episodes of the businessman’s private life before occupying the White House.

The pivot of the accusations is the adult film actress Stormy Daniels, who received US$ 130,000 (about R$ 650,000) for not disclosing that she had an affair with the billionaire in 2006.

News of the extramarital affair could affect the 2016 presidential campaign, in which the Republican defeated Democrat Hillary Clinton.

The revelation of the scheme created by Trump and his team to hide facts from the past, however, boosted donations to the businessman’s campaign, which intends to run for the White House again in 2024.

According to Jason Miller, Trump’s senior adviser, the campaign received US$ 7 million (R$ 35 million) until last Monday (3) and another US$ 1.1 million (more than R$ 5 million) until the billionaire present himself to justice.

Another $2 million was donated by supporters as the former president pleaded not guilty to the 34 charges.

Trump is in pre-campaign to run for the White House in the next election. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is also in the running.

Research shows that, so far, the problems with justice have not had a significant impact on the former president’s image or on voting intentions among Republican Party voters.
