Ankara: The number of people killed in the Turkey-Syria earthquake has crossed 45,000. 39,672 people died in Turkey and 5,814 in Syria. International media reports that this is the biggest disaster in Turkey in 100 years.

Martin Griffiths, head of the UN Relief and Works Agency, said earlier that the death toll could exceed 50,000.

The report of the UN mentions that 2.6 crore people were affected by the earthquake in Turkey alone. 8.70 lakh people urgently need food in Turkey and Syria. 53 lakh people are homeless in Syria alone.

At the same time, the Ministry of External Affairs stated that 10 Indians are trapped in the disaster-affected areas of Turkey and they are safe. Meanwhile, Turkish police arrested 98 people who tried to commit theft in the affected area. Police recovered firearms from them. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has stated that immediate action will be taken against those who violate the law.

The U.N. has said that aid is coming to Turkey from various countries, but it has failed to help Syria. “Northwest Syria has been abandoned. “They are waiting for international aid that is yet to come,” Griffiths wrote on Twitter.

In Jandaris, Idlib province, the families of victims raised the UN flag upside down on top of the earthquake-damaged buildings, the international media reported. The flag was raised upside down to protest the delay in UN aid.
