The Turkish electricity generating ship Irem Sultan of the Karadeniz Powership company was diverted from the Dominican Republic to Cuba, given that said company could not advance the electricity generation project in the community of Los Negros.

It has supplied 60% of the electricity of Gambia, 26% of Ghana, 100% of Guinea Bissau, 10% of Guinea, 25% of Lebanon, 10% of Mozambique, 15% of Senegal, 80% from Sierra Leone, 10% from Sudan, among other countries.

The representative of the Turkish company maintained that the violent events and disturbances occurred in the community belonging to Puerto Viejo, three contractors of the company were injured in incidents with the community members, who had “destroyed windows of one of the vehicles and threatened to burn The equipment also uses gasoline, which is why we had to remove it.”

For his part, César Beltré, general secretary of the Los Negros Port Workers Union, said he had no knowledge of the destruction of the company’s equipment. “At first there was an issue about a tent, but it was a long time ago,” he said, quoted by the Dominican media outlet.
