California: After Elon Musk took over Twitter last week, it has been reported that 50% of Twitter’s employees have been laid off.

Elon Musk’s deal to buy Twitter for $44 billion (Rs 3.65 lakh crore) was finalized last week. After that, Twitter came under the control of Elon Musk. The first move was to fire Barak Agarwal, who was in charge of Twitter’s CEO. He also fired Chief Financial Officer Ned Segal, Legal Head Vijaya Katte, and General Counsel Sean Edgall. Elon Musk has also announced that more employees will be laid off.

In this case, Twitter offices were closed globally. Employees were informed that an email would be sent to them as to whether they were at work or not. In this case, it has been reported that half of Twitter’s total employees (50%) have been fired, as those who have worked for many years in Twitter and were in key positions. Their office computer and email are disabled. It is said that 3,700 employees may be laid off out of a total of 7,500 employees. The sacked employees have taken to Twitter to express their shock and anguish.

‘Woke up to the news that my tenure with Twitter had come to an end. I’m broken,” tweeted Michael Austin, director of public policy for the US and Canada at Twitter.

There has been a lot of opposition to Elon Musk’s action. There have been criticisms that Elon Musk is acting inhumanely.

“Twitter is losing $4 million (Rs 33 crore) every day. In this environment, there is no other option but to make layoffs,” Elon Musk posted.
