At least two people have been taken to hospital after a series of stabbings that took place during the Notting Hill carnival in London.
One of the injured, 29, is in critical condition, after being stabbed shortly after 9:00 p.m. (local time), while a 19-year-old is in serious but stable condition. In addition, there are six other men injured, but whose injuries are not life-threatening.
Deputy Deputy Commissioner Ade Adelekan, who has overseen the police operation, said: “It is unfortunate that, for the second year in a row, the night of Carnival Monday has been marred by serious acts of violence.”
“Nobody disputes the importance of carnival in London’s cultural calendar and the vast majority of those who came will have had a positive experience. However, we cannot ignore the stabbings, sexual assaults and attacks on police officers that we have seen” , he added, according to the Sky News television channel.
During the two main days of the carnival, there have been 275 arrests, which includes crimes such as possession of weapons, sexual assault, attacks on the Police and possession of drugs.
