Two truck drivers died this Saturday morning when they collided head-on while traveling on national route No. 7. In addition, another man traveling in one of the vehicles was injured and had to be hospitalized.

The shocking accident occurred a few minutes before 2 at kilometer 609 of the aforementioned route, near the town of Vicuña Mackenna, in the Río Cuarto department. At the moment, the causes of the road accident are unknown.

According to police sources told Infobae, one of the deceased was a 32-year-old man who was accompanied by another 63-year-old man in the truck he was driving, a Mercedes Benz model 1634 with a semi-trailer.

Various media outlets indicated that he was from the town of Chepes, in La Rioja. With his vehicle he was transporting soft drinks: he was heading from the city of Laboulaye, in the southeast of Córdoba, towards the province of San Luis.

The other fatal victim was a man of Brazilian nationality who was traveling alone in his Volvo truck with a semi-trailer – in this case empty – in the opposite direction to the Mercedes Benz. At the moment, he did not disclose his identity.

Vicuña Mackenna firefighters were alerted to the crash around 1:50 a.m. When they arrived at the scene, they found the two truck drivers dead. Minutes later, the police and emergency service personnel arrived and confirmed the deaths.

The bodies of the victims were inside both rooms. Meanwhile, the 63-year-old man was on the side of the road, injured: he was later transferred to the nearest hospital with a diagnosis of multiple trauma.

Together with agents from the Highway Police, the authorities mounted an operation to carry out the corresponding investigations, remove the vehicles and clear the road. Traffic was reestablished in the early hours of the morning.

Yesterday, a driver who was driving drunk – with more than four times the amount of alcohol in his blood than what is allowed in CABA, where the Zero Alcohol Law does not yet apply – crashed into another car in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Recoleta, and ended up arrested.

Police sources consulted by Infobae stated that the collision occurred during the early hours of this Friday at the intersection of Las Heras and Sánchez de Bustamante avenues.

Personnel from Neighborhood Police Station 14 C of the City Police attended the scene and confirmed the presence of a gray Volkswagen Fox that, moments before, had collided with a white Toyota Etios in which five young people were traveling.

The images captured by a security camera made it possible to determine that the Volkswagen Fox, which was traveling on Las Heras Avenue, crossed the red light at full speed and collided squarely with the other vehicle, which was going on Sánchez de Bustamante. Although the footage shows that the driver of the first vehicle managed to brake, his decision was late, and the collision, therefore, became inevitable.

As could be seen on the cell phones of the different media that covered the news at the scene, the man driving the Volkswagen Fox appeared to be in an obvious state of intoxication and even had some struggles with the agents who initially detained him. inside a patrol car.

By order of the Northern Flagrancy Unit, the driver was subjected to a breathalyzer test by a Traffic agent, testing positive for 2.3 gr/l alcohol. For its part, the test carried out on the young man who was driving the Toyota Etios returned a negative result.

“It could happen to anyone who drives a car. I do not go blind through life; The traffic light changed, I crossed and the other kids also crossed when the traffic light changed,” the drunk man justified his actions when he was talking to an officer.
