U-Boat Worx Super Sub: A submarine faster than a dolphin

by time news

At U-Boat Worx in the Netherlands, underwater dreams are created for the well-heeled. In addition to huge submarines such as the “Nautilus” and “Uwep” or compact single-seaters such as the “Nemo” series (find out more here), the company has now also specialized in particularly fast undersea runabouts. The record holder called Super Sub was recently revised even before the first example was delivered to the first buyer.

Out of the way, dolphin!

The Super Sub is a three-seater with a huge glass ball at the front. The entire design is designed for the lowest possible water resistance. The manufacturer states that the submarine reaches up to 10 knots, which corresponds to a speed of around 18.5 kilometers per hour on land. This would make the Super Sub faster than a dolphin and few sea creatures would be able to swim away from the vehicle.

Several propellers are used as the drive, the system output for propulsion is said to be 60 kilowatts. The company puts the maximum diving depth at 300 meters, and the duration of a dive is limited to a whopping eight hours.

Like other submarines from the manufacturer, the Super Sub is controlled with a joystick, which is intended to ensure the simplest possible operation.

In an emergency four days of oxygen

If something goes wrong, the Super Sub offers its occupants oxygen for 96 hours. At the stern there is a buoy which, in the event of an accident, appears on the surface and indicates the exact location of the diving ship.

U-Boat Worx states that the first example of the Super Sub has already been sold and that delivery should take place next year. The first tests on the open sea are to take place as early as spring.

The company does not name a price. For orientation: The “Nemo”, the smallest copy of the manufacturer, starts at 545,000 euros.
