Abu Dhabi: A domestic worker who stole expensive items including gold jewelery from her owner’s house was sentenced to six months in prison and a fine in the UAE. The Dubai Court of Appeal upheld the prison sentence of an Asian domestic worker. The court sentenced the maid to imprisonment for six months. They have also been ordered to pay a fine of 2,000 dirhams and to deport them after serving the sentence.

The incident in question took place last July. The court punished the domestic worker of Asian origin on the complaint filed by the house owner. The owner of the house filed a complaint against the workers for missing valuables including gold ornaments and household items from his house. In the complaint, the owner of the house also pointed out that after questioning the other employees, they had no role in the incident. The complaint also states that after inspecting the residence of the accused, who was on annual leave, the missing items were found. They were stored in boxes and kept ready to be transported to their own country by ship.

The complaint states that the stolen items were stored in the accommodation provided by the house owner as he did not have enough money to transport them by ship. Meanwhile, the accused denied the crime. The accused says that the house owner’s wife gave him the items recovered from the residence such as computer, tablet, watch made of gold and jewellery.
